Lightbulb Studying for my CSCS

I recently graduated from college with a bachelors. That enabled me to take my Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist test to get my credential.

I have been reading the NSCA's essentials of strength and conditioning. The book is great and I am learning alot about exercise science. Has anyone else gotten their CSCS credential?

I was also looking around the website and it seems that there are crossfit certifications. I really think those would be a great goal for me down the road. Where do you take the exams for those crossfit credentials? And how do you study for it?

Like I said, the CSCS is mainly exercise science and is found in books. How does the crossfit certification work?

Re: Studying for my CSCS

You do the workouts, you read the Crossfit Journal, and watch the Crossfit videos. Then you take the certification course and at the end of the weekend you take the test.

So am I correct in saying you have to stay in a hotel near the test taking area and attend classes for a couple days?

You could, or just wait for one to be held at an affiliate that's reasonably close by so you don't have to stay over at a hotel. The cert is Saturday and Sunday, you do a workout each day and at the end there is a test. Pass the test and you are certified, if you fail you can retake the test for a reduced fee at another certification on a different weekend; you can retake it the same weekend.
