Bamboo Bar
Anybody have experience using one of these and find it worth the purchase? Looks pretty cool and was thinking about picking it up but I would like to know if anyone that has used it has found it beneficial.

Re: Bamboo Bar
I tried it once for bench press with the bar weight plus a green band hanging from each end with a 1 pood KB attached. Stabilizing that bar was one of the most frustrating thing I've ever tried..lol

Re: Bamboo Bar
You could get a 2 inch diameter PVC pipe and get the same effect. Only difference is you can not load it up with as much weight as a Bamboo bar. I used a PVC pipe through for my shoulder rehab after a torn Labrum and it was great. I never went over hanging 60 lbs from each side cause I wasn't sure of the strength of the PVC pipe, but is was pretty challenging to say the least. This is also a great finisher to any upper body workout. It kills all your stabilizer muscles.

Re: Bamboo Bar
Can get heavier schedule PVC if you're worried about standard sch40 breaking under load. Can carve apart pipe unions to make retaining collars (glue onto the pipe), and use end caps, glue on flanges, elbows, or T's on the end to keep bands from slipping off.

Check out my diy bandbell bar - it is very strong:

Re: Bamboo Bar
After the advice you guys gave, I decided to shell out the $5 dollars on the PVC pipe, here's video of how it performs:
http://youtu.be/imkjavGnTxw I think the fiberglass option would be better, but I wanted to get something quick without ordering anything. I'm pretty sure this is sch 40, so sch80 would be better, it's just I couldn't find it in home depot. |
