Re: Seen in Public today

Maybe they were speed walking to get into position to use the resistance band as a sling shot for the light weight dumbbells?

Damnit, that actually makes sense.

I saw a guy with the Ironman symbol on his calf, and went up and said, Wow, did you complete an Ironman race? I was like, durr.. of course you did. He was nice.. I was completely enthralled!

The teacher politely said, "No, you've had candy already today, you don't need anymore. Besides your mom is here." Ok, no big deal, right? Another mom is nearby and see's the whole scenario. This mom is probably 5'4" tall and 200+ lbs. easily, obviously not just "a big lady". The mom pipes in and says to my daughter (and me): "Oh, you have such a big sweet tooth, huh?" I jokingly say, "A little, she gets it from her dad..I'm not much on sweets and don't keep much in the house". Apparently this lit up a firestorm in the mom who proceeded to SCOLD me for not keeping candy/cookies/sweets stocked in my pantry. She also went on to claim: "If you have it at home, she won't want it anymore! Plus if you provide her with a nutritious, balanced diet then what's the harm in having candy?! She NEEDS to have it at home!" As if I was in an SNL skit, it was at that moment that her 2 obese children (ages ~2-4) were escorted into the room by another teacher. Seriously? YOU want to give me nutrition advice and healthy eating habits??

I, being too tired to argue, politely said, "Thanks, but I know what works in my home." THEN, as we're walking out she says to my 2 yr. old daughter, "I'll bring you some candy tomorrow"....WTF?!

I then said, "Yeah, I'm SURE your kids won't miss it, doesn't look like they've missed much junk food at all"......and left. As I'm in the parking lot, I see her and her 2 kids walking out....both of them sucking on twinkies....*sigh*

I feel bad for her kids.....

Why the hell is the teacher giving kids candy?

It's a pretty standard practice for teachers to do that these days. It's a reward for doing something right.

Yea, nothing worse than them coming home hyperactive.
Or a role model undermining authority.

I'm not comfortable with the government stepping in and telling me I can't give a lollypop to a kid. Not that I would, generally. But I like having the freedom to do so.
