Football injury


I have started helping out at a local footie club.
They do tradition weights once a week and a heap of different running and kicking drills twice a week.

Problem: most of the 16-19 yr olds have a groin strain..I mean nearly all of them! The strength coach thinks its a issue with weak glutes, causing them to rely on their hamstrings/groin to run.

Does this sound right to you guys and what would you suggest as a fix?

Your strength coach is probably right.

Work on:

~full ROM squats
~possibly other glute/ham work

Not to hijack...

But I am hoping to play some footie this summer and fall. All part of the "play a new sport" aspect of fitness. Could you point me to some good resources for drills and skills for footie. My background is from soccer, as a field player (no punting).
