Hanging Bumpers on Wall...

I've got a bumper rack that I built of 2x6s, but I'm trying to make my garage more efficient (get as much as possible off of the floor) and have been thinking about hanging the bumpers on my walls (or off the side of my workbenches, toolbox, etc.).

Surely someone has done this, right? I'm thinking 1.5" or 2" plumbing pipe (biggest that'll fit inside the bumpers which is probably 1.5") with a floor flange on one-end that is lag-bolted to a 2x6 or 2x8 or something which is lag-bolted to the wall. anyone done it? my garage walls are cinder block, so I'd have to use tapcons or concrete anchors to attach the 2x6 or 2x8 or whatever. i'm leary of just attaching the floor flanges to the block wall by itself as it may blow-out, especially with the heavier bumpers.

my questions... has anyone done this? are you happy with it? is it holding up well? anything you'd do differently?

Crossfit Flagstaff (W/F safe) inherited a wall mounted system from Peaks Weightlifting. It was okay, but I prefer a system of vertical stacking on posts.

I think you're approach is right on the money. I haven't done it but probaly will as my bumper count increases. Floor space is at too much of a premium.

if you're doing this just for plate storage...i'd opt for 3/4" pipe & flanges. It's *a lot* cheaper. A 12" pipe nipple (1.5") and floor flange is about ~$18. That adds up pretty quick.

They double as platforms for box jumps, too.

Here's my experience making a small wall mounted rack. Not in cement though. Still going strong a year later.

awesome, thanks for the posts. that's pretty much exactly what i was thinking about. now i just gotta reorganize the garage walls as I don't even have any free wall space at the moment...

My bumpers are on the wall now...

i used 1" floor flanges. they were secured to the 2x6 before it went on the wall with 5/16" hex bolts, washers and tee-nuts. i then secured the 2x6s to the wall using 3/16" tapcons. i then hand-tightened 1" x 8" pipe nipples into the floor flanges and hung the bumpers up. theres 380lbs of bumpers up there, and I believe 31lbs in 5s/2.5s/fractionals

yay for floor space!

btw, i've got 2 bumper racks made of 2x6s that someone can have for free if they're local; i wont be needing them anymore
