Do a search for it on the forum, I think someone posted the link to the article by Ethan Reeve. I beleive it was in the 40+ pull-up post. But it's basically attaining a goal by gradually decreasing the sets it take to get to that goal.
An example would be a Goal of 40 pull-ups. You would start with say 8 sets of 5 then when that was easy moved to 7 sets of 6, then 6 sets of 7 then 5 sets of 8 etc. until you are cabale of 1 set of 40. J.D. |

Just for clarity, in his article, he recommended first to double your goal then proceed to divide it evenly first into high sets with low reps and over time progressing to much fewer sets with more numerous reps. The previous discussion with links can be found @ http://www.crossfit.com/discus/messages/21/2768.html s. uke While one can easily understand your level of excitement in discovering the tremendous quantity of quality information found throughout the entire CrossFit website, you now have the unique distinction of being the first with a post in the entire history of the message board to contain the word "f***." While not trying to sound like the "PC Police," there is a high degree of camaraderie and a certain degree of professionalism in the manner in which people post. While I cannot presume to speak for everyone, it is my view that the obscenities are unnecessary. To a certain degree, it lowers the standard of the quality of the discussion and is a distraction to the subject at hand. Food for thought: I've often heard it expressed that the frequent use of obscenities is a sign of a weak mind trying to express itself with force. Respectfully, John |

Uke,
I'm glad you took my comments in the constructive spirit in which they were intended. No disrespect was ever intended. The CrossFit community is composed of highly motivated and strong-minded athletes and warriors with much to contribute, yourself included. My intent was not to imply that you are weak-minded but rather, why give anyone the wrong impression? As Rutman says, "LIVE STRONG!" |

John,
Doubling your original goal, and then performing less sets and more reps per set each workout does not make much sense as one gets closer to the original goal of one set of 40.Using the example above. A goal of 40 Chins, eventually you will be faced with decending sets looking something like this: 4 sets of 22=88 3 sets of 26=78 3 sets of 27=81 3 sets of 28=84 3 sets of 29=87 3 sets of 30=90 2 sets of 31=62 2 sets of 32=64 2 sets of 33=66 2 sets of 34=68 2 sets of 35=70 2 sets of 36=72 2 sets of 37=74 2 sets of 38=76 2 sets of 39=78 2 sets of 40=80 This seems to make sense until you hit the 3's. Then gets equally ridiculous when you hit the 2's. Am I missing something here?} |

The goal is ONE set of 40. If you can do 4 sets of 22, my guess is you'd be there.

Barry,
I can do four sets of 22 with a 3:00 to 4:00 rest between each set, and I cannot do one 40 rep set. There is a better way to train for one continuous set! |

Don't take a 3-4 minute rest. Density training is typically on the minute.
