Crossfit on a Cruiseship

I will be going on a cruise soon for 7 days. Does anyone have any experience on trying to Crossfit on a cruiseship? The gym usually has light dumbbells and some cardio machines as well as a small track. I know that I will stray far from my normal eating regimen so it will not be acceptable for me to back away from training for a week. Any and all suggestions would be helpful.

Sprints, pull ups, BW, use the db for KB stuff, hit the heavy bag if they have one.

There are better things to do on a cruise ship. See what activites they have and do those. Are you training to train or to do stuff?

Re: Crossfit on a Cruiseship

The goal is continue my fitness progression as well as not to gain the 5lbs that I did on my last cruise.

Over the last couple of years I used mainsite WODs as part of a Yo-Yo diet/exercise program. In March I decided enough was enough and that I needed to improve my health and fitness level. Since then I have lost 35lbs and have only missed a couple weeks worth of mainsite WOD's. No going back!

Yes, there are better things to do. I just want my cake and eat it too.

Re: Crossfit on a Cruiseship

I've been on 2 cruises since starting CrossFit. I do a lot of running, and body weight stuff.
Made up several WOD and just rotated every couple of days.

Example:

50 pushups
Run .5 miles
40 pushups
Run .4 miles
30
......

Do the same thing with burpees and running
Air squats and running

Got lucky on my last cruise and they actually had a rowing machine.

If you are really elite, swim along side of it.

Lower a line down and climb up it when you are done.

That is hardcore.

Thanks Jamie and Todd. Hopefully there will be other Crossfitters onboard. BTW a rowing machine would be sweet.

Re: Crossfit on a Cruiseship

I'll be going on a 4 night in August, so I'm going to try to get at least 2 good workouts in. There is a track around the top of the boat, so I am going to work in some run/burpee/squat etc. I'll look over the bodyweight exercise PDF and pick a couple.
They also have a climbing wall, so I plan on spending a lot of time on that anyways.

See if you can get a long oar and help move the boat. You might even get a discount for your trip.

Water prowlers. Just tie yourself to the bow and swim.

Re: Crossfit on a Cruiseship

What I did 3 days when I went on a 7 day cruise over Christmas this past year:

4 rounds for time:
1 lap around the track
25 burpees

The track on top was 330-350 meters. It was especially fun running into the wind after those burpees! I also knocked out a few sets of pull ups on the one messed up pull up bar they had in their globo-style gym.

It never hurts to take a light week though, and a cruise is the ideal opportunity to do so.
