4/21 5x5 Back Squat Question

Hi, for the 5x5 Back Squat, is it done to failure each set? Or should we try and use the same weight each set? Thanks

Re: 4/21 5x5 Back Squat Question

you start the workout with something you know you can handle for 5reps
then each set you increase your weight.

so it could look like this:
90kg, 95kg, 100kg, 102.5kg, 105kg

and take a note if you fail in any sets..
if you do fail, don't increase weight, rest and try again or lighten the load

Re: 4/21 5x5 Back Squat Question

Newbie here and I have a few questions.
for the WOD back squats 5-5-5-5-5
What does this mean?
How much weight do I use?
I read that I do as many reps as I can for 20secs and rest, then repeat. If that is the case what are the 5's for?
Thanks!

Re: 4/21 5x5 Back Squat Question

I handle this day as backsquat 5 rep max day. I know about what my backsquat 5 rep max is so I take it and start with the bar and add about 10% of my total each time. This gives me a few warm-up sets and then some work sets. If it is taking too long I may jump in the start. For example: 5rm=300. Squat 5 reps at 45, 135, 185, 215, 245, 275, 285, 295, 305.

Re: 4/21 5x5 Back Squat Question

I personally do it differently and do sets across... I don't think there is a hard fast rule on it.

I only posted in response to the previous poster. He seemed pretty lost.

Re: 4/21 5x5 Back Squat Question

I think my squats are weak for my size. Maybe some input from more experienced lifters????

5' 10" 170lbs 42 yrs old
Warmed up with 5 min of Jumprope & 1 round on heavy bag.

Set #1 - Warmup 225lbs
Set #2 - 295lbs
Set #3 - 295lbs
Set #4 - 275lbs
Set #5 - 275lbs

Any thoughts?

Re: 4/21 5x5 Back Squat Question

i have to disagree, i would say those are fairly heavy squats. Your not overly tall or heavy.

Im 6'0", 195lbs and i only went 205, 215, 225 (fail after 3), 215, 215.

Obviously, some people can lift more than you (and me) but weak for your size?...naaaaaah
