Angry UFC 151 canceled

Bummer - Hendo injured his knee.
Apparently they scrapped the whole card.
Now Jon Jones will fight Machida at 152 in Toronto.

Machida deserved a rematch. Too bad it's on such short notice.

I bet Jon Jones' camp is unhappy with having to fight Machida. They go from facing Hendo, who only has a clinch game and a right haymaker, to Machida, who clearly had the edge over Jones until he made 1 mistake and got a nasty cut.

Re: UFC 151 canceled

Word is, Dana offered the fight to Chael Sonnen, who took it on 1 week's notice. Dana then called Jones, and Jones refused to fight Chael.
Now the entire UFC 151 is scrapped, and 152 will feature Jones against Machida.

LAME.

I would have loved to see Sonnen fight Jones.

I read and article the other day where Jone's said something to that effect. It's kind of a no-win for him. If he wins, he beat a guy he's already beaten before. If he loses, he loses the belt. It was also mentioned that his last fight with Machida was his lowest PPV draw, so the financial incentive is even lower to fight Machida.

Yep. Would have been entertaining, I think.

Still, I think Jones vs Machida should be a big draw for UFC 152. Pretty amped for this one.

It would have been great to see chael fight jones on one week's notice. Image how much trash talk he would have condensed into one week!

Re: UFC 151 canceled

Following who Jon Jones is going to fight is like following the Chris Paul trade rumors.

I'm not surprised Machida didn't take the fight, since he's just coming off his bout with Ryan Bader and has a title shot in his next bout. I don't know why Dana White announced that it was Machida, if he hadn't accepted it.

Shogun also didn't take the fight, but he's on a 45 day medical suspension with 30 days no contact.

It sounds like Anderson Silva would have volunteered to fight a light heavyweight other than Jones to save UFC 151.

Quote:
According to UFC president Dana White, Silva, the middleweight champion, personally called him just moments after he announced on Thursday that UFC 151 was canceled after Jon Jones turned down a fight against Chael Sonnen. Silva, who admitted he wasn't in the best shape, volunteered to fight on eight days' notice in Las Vegas against another light heavyweight fighter. Unfortunately, he was a few hours late as the promotion had already decided to scrap the event.

White said he never expected Silva to offer his services and appreciated the call.

Re: UFC 151 canceled

Although I was rooting for Sonnen I don't think he has earned back to back title shots. Jones should turn it down.

Silva offering to fight was a red herring.. That would be the biggest fight possible on UFC outside of GSP vs. Silva. There is no way they would turn down that fight, they just want to be able to get enough of a head of steam behind it to max viewership.

Re: UFC 151 canceled

I watched an interview the other day where Dan Henderson was asked why he thought JBJ has been such an unpopular champion. He had trouble putting it into words, but he eventually said that the fans sense that he's "not genuine" and that he's fake.

Jones recently fired back at Sonnen's trash talk on Twitter, stating "at least disrespect me to my face like a man". Jones was just given that opportunity, and he declined. Looks like Hendo was right after all.
