I can't figure out how many blocks a day I should be consuming. I have Crossfit journal #21 and I'm all ready to go but I don't know what I fit into or how I would go to figure that out. I'm 5'10" 180lbs. I'm in the army and am a PT stud so I'm tempted to go with the athletic category of 25 blocks because I think that's where I would go but I want to lose body fat. Should I only do like 21 blocks instead or would I be slowing my metabolism?

I used the body fat calculator on zoneperfect.com and it told me im about 18% bf and 21 blocks a day was for me. So I guess I answered my own question but if anyones got any other input to help me get that down it would be appreciated. I can only imagine the level of fitness I would be at if I get that down to under 10%.

John, no one is on 25 blocks! I would go with 18 for now and see what happens.

See, I'm still not sold on the block reqs...I am going steady at 11-12 blocks...3/3/1/3/1 I seem to have pretty good energy for the WODs, and don't really feel hungry at all throughout the day. I have been going down in bodyfat (haven't checked it in months, just judging on the mirror and wife comments  ). I'd like to drop the bodyfat faster...just not sure how to do it.

hi. i'm new and i'm not sure about my blocks either. i'm 30 years old and overweight (5'9" 228 lbs). i'm pretty active with regular martial arts, paintball, biking, shooting, outdoors stuff, etc... i have been doing crossfit for about a month, however, i can still only manage 50% WODs. yet, when i in put my info into the body fat calculator i got 22 blocks a day (5,3,5,3,5,1). does this seem high to people? should i stick with this number?

the calculator gave me a lean body mass of 169 lbs. when i went in to my health club to get analyzed about 6 months ago i also got a lean body mass of about 170 lbs and the fitness guys did a lot more measuring. so the 22 blocks seem right. but i still think 22 blocks sounds high.

In my experience the online calculator is smack on. I'd work with the prescribed number of blocks and see what happens. Some people need to adjust, but it's rare.

See, the calculator was off for me. I ate the 15 or 16 blocks it said and ballooned up. I guess it just illustrates the importance of establishing a baseline...
