Muscle Up Grips

Novice Gymnast in need of advice.

I always use the false grip when doing muscle ups. However, when ever I come down and go into a kip, I lose the false grip or I don't have it when my hands turn back over (going down). Is there any advice on maintaining a false grip? Is learning a muscle up with out a false grip 'acceptable'?

Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Muscle Up Grips

The false grip is a bent wrist position. When you come to the top of the muscle up however the wrist straightens out. On the way back down therefore you must put the wrist back into the bent wrist, false-grip position.

link is work/family safe

It will also help if you learn to do the muscle up without a kip first.

I have that exact same problem, it mentally messes with me when I am fixing to do one and when trying to link as well.

That video is impressive. I'll do some muscle up progression work and try to get my strict MU's down. I plan to post a video soon as well so it will demonstrate what I'm referring to.
