I have a success story that I'd like to share.

Started the Paleo diet November 1 and have been very rigorous and consistent with it ever since. When I started, I was new to CF but not new to exercise (triathlons for the last 4 years). I was somewhere around 12% BF (6'0" 181#).

I had the opportunity to use a device the other day called the "Bod Pod". Hyper accurate machine for determining body composition that uses air displacement vice water or electric current. It's used by lots of NFL teams in evaluating draft picks at the NFL combine (Google Bod Pod to see more about this device).

Anyhow, my weight was 171#s and my BF% was 3%. Of course, I have been doing CF regularly since November (as well as triathlon training) so my training volume may be more than normal, but even so, I was pleased to change my body comp and lean out. I feel great too, no afternoon tired spells and usually plenty of energy for 2x daily workouts. Thanks CF and Dr. Cordain!

Not only did I read the Paleo Diet by Dr. Cordain, but I also read "The Paleo Diet for Athletes" by Cordain and Joel Friel. I also am a lurker on the TrainingPeaks.com website which I use for my triathlon coaching.

Bottom line is that I try to consume lots of calories all day long. Post workout, I immediately try to hit some protein and some carbs, and usually a bit of natural sugar (fruit etc). Protein shakes (I cheat and use 4 oz water and 4 oz of skim milk) are good and I like smoothies as well (OJ, banana, strawberry and blueberry is yummy). I am starting to use sweet potatoes, particularly after my weekend brick workouts (bike 40k, run 5k). I'll keep ya posted as my tri season training really gears up.

3% sounds pretty extreme. I'm not saying your reading was wrong, but .

Not that we don't believe you but any chance you have an updated pic on file to post. Professional bodybuilders step on competition stage at around 2-3% which is very hard to do. Not to mention unhealthy to maintain for an extended period of time. If the reading was in fact accurate, pat yourself on the back for a remarkable feat. Venture to say not many here, myself included, are at or below 5%. (exception to those weighing less than a 150lbs).

I think that I read below 5% cuts into fat stores that cushion and protect internal organs. Almost sure you can find info regarding this with the search function.

LOL. You guys are just jealous! I'm kidding!

I just finished Paleo Diet for Athletes and am about 2/3 the way there at the moment. Stories like this one motivate me to get on board!

i was once at 5.5%BF at 6'2 and weighed 174 at the time. i was pretty shredded for a skinny guy but froze my of in the winter ice climbing. oh, and i was eating paleo then too, but now follow the zone and have added dairy and bread and feel better actually! now i am about 7-9%bf. 3% sounds a bit extreme and i believe anything below 5% starts causing wierd things to happen to your body like mood swings, and other stuff i can't think of right now.
