I was planning on donating blood tomorrow afternoon after my workout. This may be overly paranoid/OCD but would this actually reduce the amount of nutrients from my post-workout meal going to repair my muscles/restore glycogen? Should I maybe wait a bit after my workout or just make sure I eat and drink a lot after I am done giving blood? I am just not sure what would be the right thing to do, since I have never given blood before. Thanks.

Giving blood has definite health benefits, as well as being an altrusitic act, in helping other people, but it does lower RBC count, and studies with EPO have shown that the hematocrit coorelates pretty good with recuperation, up to a point.

Your idea of eating and drinking more is right on the money.

Don't sweat it, although I've noticed performance drops, especially in endurance stuff, after giving blood.

I do think there is a rebound, though. I seem to have felt it before.

Just let your body do what it's going to do.

No problems other than perhaps some dizzyness, Steve's info is right on.

Hey, that could be a new WOD. . .

Donate some blood,
Do the WOD,
Then donate some Puke.

I have tried to donate blood and then do a killer workout (before CF), I was sick for an hour. Fun stuff.
