Would like to know how others approach their work outs on days they donate blood. I typically donate 6 times a year. As long as I donate in the morning and they do not blow a vein, I try not to change my workout for the day. Plus I get the nice fuzzy headed feeling some of the WODs induce with half the effort!

Keg-

No overhead lifts and no handstands...for sure. Just take it easy. I frequently just take that day off.

I would agree on take it easy. I've been told by the nurses not to workout at all that day. Good to see some donate that often because many blood banks need it and it's healthy to boot. Kind of funny when you think about it, but we Crossfitters are probably blood doping the recipients to some extent.

I generally do my workout fairly early in the morning, so blood donations will usually be later . . . no problem.

On days when I haven't been able to do that, I just drink a lot of water and do the WOD anyway. I know I won't get a stellar performance, but I'm sure it qualifies as some sort of 'extra stress' training.

Dave

P.S.: *Every* CrossFitter should be donating blood regularly. It's good for you (evidence suggests that it reduces iron overload), it's good for the society you live in, it's good for your karma.

We could turn donating into a WOD! I know I always try to fill the bag as quickly as possible by repeatedly pumping my fist. Maybe best time overall? Or blood then plasma for time. Kidding of course but it is good to see crossfitters donating.

I give regularly and my boss and I race everytime (well, we used to till he gave up). I always win....personal record is 5 minutes so far. What y'all got?

He complains that I've got big veins and it's not fair. I told him that I don't complain that he's taller when we play basketball, so he shouldn't be complaining that I have the tools for the job at hand here.

Not sure I could beat 5 minutes. I'll be sure to time my next donation which is next Wednesday. Maybe we can start posting times and PRs. Anything to promote donating would be great.

I can see it now: Tabata blood-donating intervals.

How can you improve your time?

I'm thinking of giving blood to get over my fear of needles.
