Great to see Matt Chan finish in second, despite being a bigger guy and 34 years old!

Really enjoyed this years competition, was great to watch and very inspiring.

Awesome event. I missed a lot of today though. Finally got home when Fran was the event for the Men's events.

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

The inconsistency of standards to which the individual atheletes are held is unfair, particularly in the 3 benchmark workouts. Some of the power cleans being passed were atrocious, while other less popular athletes were being no repped with better form. Sucks.

I see they are calling Rich's elizabeth time a 'world record'. Are they counting that it's Power Elizabeth? Oh well.

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

Overall good competition this year. Congrats to Rich and Annie. I have to say my favorite this year is Matt Chan though. The fact that he continued to improve year after year and was able to get second as a 200+ athlete over 30 is really amazing and says a lot about his dedication I think. Not to take anything away from anyone else.

One critique I have to make though. I think they really need to fix the final events. They should all somehow be structured like 2008. Some way where the winner of the event is the winner of the Games. To me it's really anticlimactic to see someone blast through Fran to get first place and celebrate in exhaustion and tears.....and then watch someone drop off the bar 5 athletes later and walk to the center to grab the title. It's just...odd. Kind of disjointed. It really takes away from the energy in a way. Plus it can be confusing. Not this year perhaps because it was won before the event started, but if the points were ever close it'd be really tough to have any idea who was winning.

Anyone know who won the spirit of the games award this year?

Deborah Cordner Carson won Spirit of the Games this year. And while I think she deserved it, I was really pulling for Chris Spealler.

Chris has won already. Love Spealler, but I don't think it would be right to have given it to him again.
