Christmas Present from my Son

Last Christmas my 16 year old son brought Crossfit home. His soccer coach had the team doing the Girls over the break to ensure fitness for the start of the season in January.

I was 5'9, 235lbs and 43. I have played soccer most of my life (Coed, Over 30 for the past ~10 years). My normal workout was a brief stretch, then a 5K run two or three times per week. Sometimes I did situps, and once in a while I would do a couple of pushups.

I started reading the website and was sold on the idea of nutrition and functional fitness. In late January I started following the WOD to the best of my ability. The building where I work has a gym in the basement with basic equipment and showers and I usually workout at lunch time. Having never lifted I had a hard time (and still do) getting the lifts right. However, over that past nine months I have made steady progress.

April 1st, I started a 100 day burpee challenge. Several guys in my office started with me but gave up around the 25th day. On July 9th I did 100 burpees in 8:20 ( Completing this challenge changed me both mentally and physically. I can now see through a tough workout and make it to the end and my core strength is closer to matching the rest of me.

The High School Soccer team is still doing the Girls (and other workouts). These have brought my son's fitness to a much higher level. While we don't work out together, crossfit does give us something in common to talk about.

Now I am 220lbs, my belt is two notches tighter and I'm not sore for three days after a soccer game (thanks to the squats).

Crossfit has made my life better.
