Gals doing gymnastics strength moves

This is kind of stemming off a thread on Gymnasticbodies about gals working strength moves. Obviously we have seen many of the CF gals doing MU. I figured some people might enjoy these.

W/F safe

Kallista doing a MU. Somewhat strict.

Itty-bitty doing straddle L to straddle planche.

Armine Barutian doing straddle planche press HS. Wide straddle but still way impressive. There are a few gals who do this on BB typically and quite a few girls who work " reverse " planche with your heels over your head with the body arched or straddle planche.

On John Gill's site, there were 2 gals who did One Arm Chin's. I came across one youtube video of a 12yo doing a tuck flag and I'm sure there are acrobat gals out there doing flags or some cross like maneuvers on those acrobat strap like ribbons.

Re: Gals doing gymnastics strength moves

There is a gal in youtube that can do flags easily, but she is training to be an acrobat, so I guess she is only going to get stronger.

Thanks, I like to see this sort of stuff. When I rang up about adult gymnastics and said I was interested in rings I got stony silence followed by - that's normally a mens thing. They didn't have adult gymnastics anyway. Even that's unthinkable in some circles.

Aileen, don't worry about it. Our CF women do rings, P-bars and pommel horse and our CF men do beam. It's all good and useful. Yeah, most pure gymnastics facilities might question it, but explain. They don't get it, but most can given the chance. Some will be totally closed about it though.

I was interested in trying beam/uneven bars until I discovered the number of ball-endangering moves they used...

Sure (wfs).

Actually just try a front hip circle.

Why is uneven bars less valid for men than the high bar? I certainly think that transitions from one bar to the other will develop your skills in a way high bar won't.

Re: Gals doing gymnastics strength moves

Your ballz are very endangered by Mr. Pommel. Somewhat by Parallel bars should you do something interesting. Very in danger, just like Uneven bars on High Bar.

Actually, last year I though it might be a novel idea to try to teach one of my boy's a front hip circle to aid in his learning the kip. We scratched that idea after one rep. It had been 5 years and actually it was more uncomfortable with me during a mill circle on the underside of my legs though I never crunched ( damn pullovers and back hip circles, baby giants ). Stride Circle and Front Hip circle are good drills for the kip but there is way too immediate danger for the family jewels. Perhaps a cup would have been in order. I think I've seen men do stride and mill circles in yesteryear on bars.

The transitions from HB to LB on UB are good and all but take a LONG time to develop. Men should figure out a squat on jump to high bar ( especially parkour/free-runners ), and I've had a few boys hit a straddle back on the first try. However, I'm talking about cocky, super extremely aware 10-11yo who were more than willing to show the girls how it was done besides being super talented that never tried it again. Not really a smart thing like doing handstands on a beam with socks on, either gender.

Most men should be able to walk, balance and hop on a BB. Anything past that is pretty extraneous but it can be fun.

Re: Gals doing gymnastics strength moves

14-year old girl from a tumbling class I coach performing a brute strength muscle-up. No real gymnastics or conditioning background, just soccer.

Link is Work / Family Safe:

She "trained" this for about 5 tries.
