Re: About the CFE WOD

Guy - the SDHP is a suggested sub for rowing in CF wods. See CF FAQ for more info - http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/faq.html#Substitutions5 (wfs)

For the particular CFE S&C workout on 10/12 that you're asking about, the SDHP is not a suitable substitute since you're trying to measure power output (watts). Hard to measure that if you're not on an indoor rowing machine (erg, c2, etc) that measures watts.

The workout also gives you the option to use a bike with a Computrainer, PowerTap, or Monark erg to measure watts. However, if you don't have access to a bike or rower that measures watts, then you should probably skip this particular workout.

Well, the FAQ does call out SDHP as the sub for C2.

3.6. What if I don't have a rowing machine?Do Sumo Deadlift High Pulls (see exercise page for demo):
If you don't have a rower substitute sumo-dealift high pulls (sdhp) with 45 pounds for men and 30 pounds for women. Take the bar from mid shin to under your chin--"shin to chin."
2K row = 200 sdhp's, 1K row = 100 sdhp's, 500 meter row = 50 sdhp's
That said, I think 200 SDHPs at 45lbs hurts me waaaay more than a comparable-effort 2K row. Maybe SDHP as a movement is a good sub for C2, but I think the substitution numbers need some adjustment.
