Pistols, single leg squat form check

Hi this is a video of me doing a pistol, Is my form ok?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTtSeT1c964

I was going to start doing them holding a weight close to my body. As holding a weight away from my chest makes things easier. Ill put a video for the other leg up when it uploads.

It looked alright from what I saw, no side to side movement from the first angle and not much forward knee travel but it was a little hard to tell without being able to see your feet.

Re: Pistols, single leg squat form check

seems like you are "tapping" the floor with your straight leg a bit? This is ok for starters but try and keep that leg extended and elevated throughout the movement.
I find ankle flexibility to be the confounding factor for pistols, deff. easier with a 5kg weight held at arm's length.

Thanks for the replies. Yeh I tend to tap the ground with the other leg I've only recently been able to stop myself plopping to the ground.

I think I'll start holding my hands/ arms closer to my body?

Actually it will be more difficult if you bring your arms in.

Ive tried keeping my spine neutral and filling my belly with air and bracing but I fall backwards.

I think it's OK. You're not holding any weight anyways, and even when you do, it wont be a big weight like in your squats. I don't think you can even reach rock bottom in a pistol without a rounded back!

Re: Pistols, single leg squat form check

I do single leg romanian deadlifts in my warmup. To do a deadlift would I let my knees go forward at the end of a romanian?
