Re: oly lifting and hunger

Sarah

I have the same experience. I don't know if it fits with your diet, but I find that downing 40 grams of whey protein immediately after my workout keeps the beast at bay. Otherwise, I am ravenously hungry and find myself devouring everything in sight and have a hard time getting it under control the rest of the day. Personally, I use American Whey. Its all natural (well, as natural as it can be), no artificial sweeteners, not chalky, dissolves well, tastes pretty good, and doesn't give me gas (big problem with the GI tract over here). Good luck.

Sara

Re: oly lifting and hunger

Go to performance menu.com but I can tell you right lff the bat you need to eat more than that when lifting. At mininimum increase the protien by 3 blocks and that 10 times fat idea would not be a gross exajeration of an apropriate caloric intake. Perhaps you would like to keep calories at la minnimumr for body comp preferences but honestly if you are hopeing for real performance gains in anything like a timely fassion in an arena like OL you are going to need the food for recovery purposes there is really no way around it.

Still chicks puting big weight over their head is a gorgouse sight in itself.

Re: oly lifting and hunger

I'm not overly familiar with zone, as I just focus on eating paleo and trying to keep my calories under wraps with a 25% protein, 40% fat, 35% carbs ratio (ratio based on alot of experimenting and what makes me feel best).

However- that said- when I did starting strength, I was also rock climbing a few day's of the week and on weekends and taking Yoga. I was ALWAYS starving... and I kept eating, and eating, except I added a little more dairy (not paleo) into my food and more healthy fats (nuts, hummis), etc. to snack on and my legs have never been so thin... (okay.. maybe when I was about 16)

If you're not getting yourself enough calories to maintain what you are doing, you can actually damage your thyroid and mess up your metabolism. If you are hungry... Eat. If you then start gaining body fat (note: I didn't say weight), then adjust.

You're going to gain weight in the form of muscle when oly lifting. You can't avoid that... but if you're starving yourself, you won't gain muscle and you'll feel like crap.

hope this helps..

Re: oly lifting and hunger

Good luck with Gary, a great guy for sure!! I have also lifted with him. BUT I would add that you have to be careful, if you want to do solely or predominantly OLY, then Zone per se is not for you and also CF shouldnt really be on the agenda either..If you want to OL for recreation purposes, that would be different.

About the food thing, hook up with Rachel Izzo (on the boards here) since she too had to grossly adjust her intake when she went from CF to OL on a f/t basis. Food for thought.

Re: oly lifting and hunger

Ditch the zone if you're going Oly. You won't find many (if any) serious lifters who do zone. Eat minimal carbs but as much fat and protein as you want.

Simple as that.

Sarah, if only for the sake of those of us who struggle to keep any level of appetite, please go and eat. Your body is telling you to go eat that cow.

Rachel, is that a cast on your arm?
