I'm still a little confused over the fat count.

If a food is fat-free then I use 3g of fat per block?

and if the food does not specifically say fat-free I add 1.5g fat per block, correct?

So almost everything needs to be done using the 1.5, except shakes and fat-free yogurts and such

What made it simpler for me is to strictly go by the 3g of fat per block. That whole 1.5g thing was confusing (you are correct in your current understanding of it), and I prefer to be a little more exact in my estimating of macronutrients.

To be more specific, in 4 oz. of sliced turkey that I buy my wife (4 blocks of protein under Sears' guidelines), if I remember correctly, there is 1 gram of fat. In the grass-fed hamburgers I had today, each burger was 3.5 blocks of protein (24g), with a full 27g of fat (9 3g fat blocks)! Do you see my issue here? In order to be Zone correct, wouldn't you want to add more fat to the turkey, and definitely not add any more fat to the hamburger? Some might even skip the hamburger! This is one break in logic that didn't make any sense to me.

So, I go with the 3g block number and calculate the fat blocks in everything as well.

i have recently seen Robb Wolf state that 1.5g should be used for counting fat blocks. i assume this offsets consumption of not-so-lean protein sources (e.g. burger). Most of my protein sources are fairly lean and when something a little fattier lands on my plate i just simply back off a little on the extra fat (fewer nuts, less oil, etc.).

Just wanted to throw that out there.
