Crossfit Decathlon

Greetings from a new member of the forum, and the crossfit community! I love all you guys and I have been lurking around here the last couple months.

Anyway, me, my training partner, and friends from my old box used to have fun discussing the concept of a "crossfit decathalon". Essentially 10 crossfit workouts to find the best crossfitter, or as reebok might say "the fittest on earth". This is similar to programming the crossfit games, but having to choose 10 makes it easier to compare answers. The goal of excersise is to think about 10 workouts that would encompass every aspect of fitness and could be a benchmark for crossfitters.

I'll kick things off with my answer, please share yours! Be as specific or vague as you want.

In no particular order ...

1. Olympic Triathlon
2. Murph
3. Obstacle course - with rope climbs, tire flips and sled push
4. Kalsu
5. Snatch Ladder
6. Jason
7. Lumberjack 20
8. CIA 7
9. Mountain Climb - Time trial- 400 M vert
10. Crossfit Total

Re: Crossfit Decathlon

An olympic triathlon, Murph, Kalsu, lumberjack 20, a mountain climb and a crossfit total in there......

I cant possibly see someone doing this in one event with out hurting themselves! Unless the event is two months long, like a "Crossfit Season" of some sort, at which point it is not really a decathlon....

Re: Crossfit Decathlon

Yea, I'm think I'm missing the point of this hypothetical. Are these supposed to be 10 events or WODS that can be done in succession, one day, weekend or over a much longer period of time?

The answer to that question greatly impacts the list.

Re: Crossfit Decathlon

Also, a couple thoughts:

- Doesn't CF's most popular WOD have to be on the list somewhere?
- I'm assume the goal is end up with some kind of cummulative score of all 10 events/WODs, so whats the plan with times and lifts?

Re: Crossfit Decathlon

Sorry , I should have explained myself better...

- Do not worry about over exhaustion or over training. Imagine the 10 WODs are done over 10 weeks with ample time for rest.

- Pick 10 Any 10 WODs that would provide the benchmark for a truely great crossfitter. Instead of a single workout like "Baseline" , the "crossfit decathalon" would be a 10 WOD method of determine overall fitness and prowess as a crossfitter. Therefore, it should encompass a wide range of aspects of fitness, crossfit skills, strength, and metabolic challenges.

Re: Crossfit Decathlon

-CF Total (strength)
-30 Muscleups for Time (cf-level gymnastics)
-Diane (sprint metcon)
-Amanda (relatively skill-heavy metcon) - I would make heavier if this hypothetical was an elite-level competition, to stress the "skill" part. Maybe 185 snatch in that case?
-Death by Pullups (lot of pullups - cf staple)
-500m row (sprint)
-Murph (endurance/bodyweight work)
-CF Total II (strength, with a little extra skill involved)

I... really don't know what the last two would be. Maybe Fran, just because. They'd be fillers, because I think that covers most of the domains.

Re: Crossfit Decathlon

I Always thought CF Seattles standards worked pretty good. If you could do all level IV standards in the down if a month you'd be an animal.

Re: Crossfit Decathlon

I'd love to see competition CrossFitters do an Olympic decathlon. You know
- 100 m sprint
- long jump
- shot put
- high jump
- 400 m sprint
- 110 m hurdles
- discus
- pole vault
- javelin throw
- 1500 m run.
Then we'd see how the "Fittest Man/Woman on Earth" stack up against the "World's Greatest Athlete." How well does General Physical Preparedness translate to other sport challenges?

Re: Crossfit Decathlon

Edit:

Actually, the Olympics would do well to adopt some form of CF Decathalon.
