What's the difference between Cleans and Squat Cleans?

I've watched both demos, but I don't really get the difference. In both case they seem to go as low as the other once the bar is caught, after bringing it up.

Re: What's the difference between Cleans and Squat Cleans?

Cleans are squat cleans. Basically triple extension and shrug of the bar dropping down under it catching it in rack in a down front squat position and pushing it up to standing.

Has been discussed before. Generally when the WOD says 'cleans' it means anyway to get it rack position standing though.. so you can do squat cleans, power cleans, DL to hang clean or whatever you want to do. When they specify "squat clean" you do it the way in the above paragraph.

Re: What's the difference between Cleans and Squat Cleans?

Ok so basically I can do it either squat clean, hang clean or power clean? And to make sure I got all three techniques right:

Squat clean: you drop under the bar and drop down to squat position
Power clean: you drop under the bar but don't drop down to squat position
Hang clean: You start with the bar at arm's length (standing), you drop under the bar and either drop down to squat position or not

So on "Linda" PC's are fair game? Hmmm... that would be easier, but I'll prolly just stick with the squat cleans cuz I'm a masochist.

Re: What's the difference between Cleans and Squat Cleans?

Today's WOD is full squat cleans. Start from the floor, not hang position. Pull yourself under the bar into a full squat position to catch the bar. Stand up. Drop or put the bar down, rest, and repeat. This is actually the default clean unless otherwise specified (hang, hang power, power).

Nope. The clean=squat clean. That is the assumed clean for the WODs, unless otherwise specified, e.g., hang cleans, power cleans.

Plenty of clarification on this from Coach et. al on the WOD comments, in the FAQ, etc.

So it is written, so it shall be done.

Re: What's the difference between Cleans and Squat Cleans?

There are some differences in opinion on a lot of these things, I always liked this post from our forums: http://board.crossfit.com/showpost.p...61&postcount=9

There are exceptions to every rule.

Well, Greg told me that's not the case Lynne! (e.g. see above link)

Re: What's the difference between Cleans and Squat Cleans?

In the spirit of Greg's post would it make sense to do Squat Cleans on "task priority" WODs (ie. 21-15-9) and Power Cleans on "time priority" WODs (ie. max rounds in 20 mins.)?
