Excercises to do with MCL injury

I recently sufferend an MCL injury to my knee which has been getting steadily worse, so now I'm going to see an ortho about it. In the meantime, however, the trainer at my school said no lower body work basically. So I'm wondering what upper body stuff I could do while the knee heals. I've got the basics (pullups, dips, pushups, presses) I'm just looking for some other more interesting things that I haven't thought of.

I'm in the same boat as you man. I'm going to the ortho tomorrow morning to find out more, but basically I've been doing everything you listed. I can't really think of anything "interesting"...just do what you can and try and preserve as much LBM as possible.

Re: Excercises to do with MCL injury

I also have a torn MCL. I'm getting a torn ACL surgically repaired but I've been told by the surgeon the MCL isn't usually surgically repaired - it will heal.

I don't understand the process of how the MCL repairs itself, especially since I'm doing supervised physical therapy to get my leg ready for the ACL surgery. So I'm not giving the leg total rest which I would think is necessary for MCL repair.

So maybe it's ok to use the leg muscles, but not stress the torn MCL by overextending it?

These are questions I have for my therapist but I'm only had two sessions with him and since the issue came up here I'm wondering if anyone has any insight.

I tried rowing on a Concept II this morn and found it worked well. All motion is in straight line so didn't seem to stress anything. I'll keep doing that.
