C2 Holiday Challenge

Anyone else planning on doing the C2 Holiday Challenge(F/W Safe) this year? I did 100k last year so I'm thinking I need to bump it up to 200k this year. Last year I averaged out 100k over 28 days which was around 3,571 meters per day. Doing 200k comes out to around 7,143 meters per day. I cringe at the thought of having to get on the C2 for 28 days at 7,143m per day so I'm going to try and load up on the meters early and taper off towards the end.

Re: C2 Holiday Challenge

A bunch of members of my rowing club do this every year. In fact, I just finished the flyer encouraging people to participate. (obviously, it's a slow day at work ) I'm very proud of my clip art artistry.

I'm gonna log my meters and maybe add a couple of 10ks a week but this year, I'm more focused on lifting and Crossfit than erging so I'm not gonna sweat it if I don't reach 100k. (note: almost everyone I know that does 200k winds up getting sick. I think that much endurance training really wears you out.)

Re: C2 Holiday Challenge

I've decided to do my 100,000meters broken up into CF-friendly sprints.

Today: 6x 500m fast sprints (1:26 was fastest) followed by 2k medium sprint (6:57) for a total of 5k.

I guess I'll do something like that 20 days this month instead of long slow slogging on the rower.

Do others do the same?

Re: C2 Holiday Challenge

Besides minimizing damage from the holiday foods, what impact do you guys think this will have? Do you think it will translate to better performance of the benchmarks at all?

Re: C2 Holiday Challenge

I work suspect that aerobic cap would shoot up several notches and some muscle gain would happen. AT minimum ... vo2 max its going to improve...
100k metres.. that is 62 miles ... A triple marathon in one month..

I just my join in on this one .. as i am on the hunt for a good c2 score.

Re: C2 Holiday Challenge

Am in. Today I did sets of rowing followed by some sets of strict pull ups during the breaks.

Warm up = 1,500m - 6:29min - 2:09.7min/500m
3min Break = Pull Ups = 6/bw - 6/bw
Test Row = 2,000m - 7:44min - 1:56.0min/500m
6min Break = Pull Ups = 5/bw - 5/bw - 5/bw
Max Effort = 4min - 1,099m - 1:49.2min/500m
6min Break = Pull Ups = 5/bw - 5/bw - 5/bw
Sprints = 500m - 1:41min - 1:41min/500m
4min Break = Pull Ups = 4/bw - 4/bw
Sprints = 500m - 1:47min - 1:47min/500m
4min Break = Pull Ups = 4/bw - 4/bw

TOTAL ROWING = 5,599m / 21:41min
TOTAL PULL UPS = 58

plus some other work at the end.

Re: C2 Holiday Challenge

Not getting as quick of a start on this as I would have liked...

Fri 5k 22:56.6
Sat 5k 21:18.3
2k 8:44.2

What damper setting does everyone have their C2 set at? I've had mine set at 5 ever since I got it 2 yrs ago. The following is from the model D manual..

The damper setting is like bicycle gearing. It
affects the feel of the rowing but does not directly
affect the resistance. With a little experimentation,
you will find the damper setting that gives you
the best workout and results. We recommend
a damper setting of 3-5 for the best aerobic
workout. This is the setting that feels most like a
sleek, fast boat on the water. Higher settings feel
more like a bigger, slower boat.
