I am seeking fellow CFers input on how to shake this #$$^ cold. I RARELY get sick and this bug has knocked me on my but for more than two weeks now. I have tried echanicia, cayene, garlic, vitamin C, brandy:wink: and still feel like I have been hit by a mack truck. Antibiotics are not an option.
I can't eat without feeling ill so food has been limited to oranges.
any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I keep watching the WOD's wanting to get back into it but haven't managed to stay awake a full day in three weeks so I might have to wait... sigh...

thanks
sheila

Shelia, are you sure it's a cold? If so REST, let your body heal...eat well. I've used Zicam and it seemed to help, but it might be late for that. Feel better.

Drink some nice hot WHITE TEA. Good for removing bio-toxins. OJ and apple Juice usually works for me to.

Larry I have never heard of Zicam. Can you tell me what it is and where I can find it.
Peter ditto on never hearing of White tea. It sounds like something I could ask for at my health food store.. am I correct.

Thanks,.. I am willing to try almost anything at this point.

Sheila

Sheila,
I recently got over a particularly strong 'bug'. What helped the most was a product called Airborne. You can find it in any RiteAid,Walgreens,SavOn etc... It is esentially a multi vitamin w/ a large dose of vitamin C & some others. It is an effervescent so your body absorbs almost all of the vitamins rather quickly.
It's marketed as the product that was invented by a 2nd grade school teacher who was tired of cathing a cold every time one of her students came to class sick.

Hope this helps & you get well soon.

Shiela,

Zicam is a zinc supplement. You can also buy zinc tablets - it boosts your immune system, but don't overdo it because it may have an opposite effect.

Airborne is supplement containing vit A, C, E, magnesium, zinc, selenium, Manganese and potassium plus herbs including echinacea and a few amino acids. Kind of your one-stop-shop for natural cold remedies.

BUT, since this has been going on for 3 weeks now, I'd go get checked out by an MD.

Hope you feel better soon!

Not to deminish what Pablo suggested because I think his opinion is good. But just to follow up with you on your question about Zicam, as per Larry's sggestion, here is the link.
http://www.zicam.com/Default.aspx

I also take Zicam because of my hayfever and head colds. Actually, I use the Extreme Relief for both colds and hayfever. The "Extreme Congetion Relief" works 100% better than their Allergy Relief. The so called Allergy Relief is no more effective for me than if I were to spray water up my nose. Again, that is just my experience.

Here is some info on white tea.

I like Celestial Seasons. Again, my 2c.
Make sure you get plenty of rest also, after all it is the best medicine.

I agree with Veronica also about consulting a doctor.

Veronica: I've always liked your Mrs. Incredible. Cool choice. And I definately agree with your personal quote. My wife often keeps me humble.
