Intra workout mixes???

I was looking online and someone had suggested mixing Gatorade with bcaas for intra workout supplement. Has anyone ever experimented this? If so what type of bcaas did you use because I've read they all taste gross!

Modern BCAA's are delicious. I've heard good things about At Large Nutrition's products as well. I take Modern BCAA's before my workout, with 20 grams of NOW Foods Dextrose, and my Creatine, Beta-Alanine, etc.

Re: Intra workout mixes???

I have used the AtLarge Nutrition Orange flavoured BCAA. It's delicious and takes just like orange coolaid (you can control strength). I don't think I'd need to mix it with gatoraid - perhaps a non-flavored version.

I have used it intra workout and can't say I noticed any difference.
However, I do use it in my water when playing golf. I did notice that I was less tried down the stretch - especially when walking in heat and in competition. All that combined can be taxing both mentally and physically. (This is not your typical golf round). With the BCAA water, I found I was a bit more clear in thought and had little to no fatigue. Maybe, since it was flavoured and I liked it, I drank more water too.

Re: Intra workout mixes???

How long of a workout are we talking about here where you're needing an intra-WOD supplement?

It's really only on the long, grinder WODs (e.g. Murph) that I find them to be of much use, and even then I'm not all that sure which I'm getting the most benefit from -- the drink, or the time spent resting while drinking it.

Re: Intra workout mixes???

Yeah, if you are doing a standard CF program there is really no reason to need food or supplements in the middle.

That said, I do have BCAAs (limeade flavor from TrueNutrition) plus Gatorade powder (lemon lime) during my 2+ hour weightlifting workouts.

I can't for sure say it works or not because it might be just me having gotten used to the volume, but I felt like my squats and other assistance at the end of the sessions went from dead tired to just uncomfortable when I started that.

Re: Intra workout mixes???

I've got 2 new flavors for my BCAA+ coming out soon (a new fruit punch and a lemon-lime).

Re: Intra workout mixes???

That's cool. Might have to try that one out.

Chris, do you have an opinion on carbs (a la Gatorade powder, et al) with BCAA's during a longer workout, assuming the BCAAs aren't being used in an IF protocol?

Not a strong one. The BCAA can help with the carbs in terms of absorption as I recall.

That's what I'd seen too. I just needed some extra energy in the middle of lifting sessions - my club workouts on the main days go 2+ hours without fail - I tried having my protein shake in between Olympic lifts and squats/assistance, but that was just way too heavy in my stomach.

I drink Allmax Nutrition Carbion or some Evogen glycojet and add some USP labs Modern BCAA
