Klokov does King Kong

Not the fastest time I have seen, but close to it. The two bar lifts looked like empty bars, pretty cool to see. Skip to 1:10 to see workout!

Re: Klokov does King Kong

Is anyone surprised? KK tends more often to be a challenge due to the weights involved and the difficulty performing HSPU's and MU's (i.e. strength to do these). Klokov is a beast.

Klokov isn't the first Oly lifter to do King Kong. David Morgan did it back in '09 but with heavier weights.

I think most have seen that, although it may not count by competition standards, those 275 cleans looked like 45 pounds.

Very impressive anyway.

Re: Klokov does King Kong

I watched the hell out of these videos. What a kick to see super strong competitve weightlifters do this "heavy" workout. I hadn't seen either of video before.

A couple of thoughts I had while watching these:
- movement standards change
- there is a time to correct form (99% of the time), and there is a time to just watch and enjoy.

Some of us were scratching our heads when the muscle up movement standard specified for the first time that feet cannot go above the rings. David Morgan's 2009 muscle ups are an example of the type of movement HQ wanted to eliminate in 2014. In 2009? Carry on, brother.

Klokov's muscle ups made me chuckle because he is strong enough not to be kipping. He looks like he is kipping because that's the way we CrossFitters do it, and he's fitting in to this arena of training that's new to him.

If I saw anyone else doing cleans like David Morgan I might encourage a little more extension, a little more depth in squats. I might say lock out on the HPSU needs to be better. But honestly, come on - these guys are Olympians. A #275 clean is light for them. You can clean it anyway you want, sir. I'd keep my mouth shut, enjoy the show, and maybe ask for an autograph afterwards.

One thing I always say is "let me see you do 1/2 reps or partial movements with that same exact movement/weight."....crickets.
