Re: Growing a beard

Aside from personal preferences facial hair serves as a nonverbal form of communication. Those with shaggy growths may come across as unorganized or lacking discipline, while those with neatly trimmed goatees/beards may seem to us as someone who is meticulous (neither one of those assumptions holds true a 100% of the time of course). Another factor to consider is that facial hair tends to add years, while for the most part someone who is clean shaven looks younger. Personally I have had a goatee for about 6 years and can't see myself without it. Depending on your profession you may or may not be able to have facial hair as well.

P.S. Can't go wrong with smoking a cigar (esp. a tasty Java from Drew Estate) and stroking your facial hair...)

Re: Growing a beard

A silly anecdote from when I was a kid - we had a family friend who had a truly EPIC beard (we were friends with his kids). He looked exactly like James A. Garfield. It was hilarious watching him eat an ice cream cone.

Re: Growing a beard

Beards are the best, I've had one for the past 7-8 years (with small stints of clean shavenness). Keep the next line trim (not too high) and it will look neater. Enjoy.

Every once in a while let the beard go untrimmed for 3 or 4 months, the feeling of a longer, fuller beard feels great.

Re: Growing a beard

Beards are definitely awesome. I go back and forth with/without one. Living in GA they are better in the winter.

Shave your neck. Keep your skin clean underneath.

Wifey likes the look more than the feel. The ladies in my office give me "extra hot points" everytime I grow it out. I tell my wife this to rile her up (works like a charm).

You will definitely be able to lift more and WOD faster with a beard. Scientific fact. Just grew one out for my last 50k race and it worked like a charm.

Prepare for awesomeness.

Re: Growing a beard

When I want to grow a beard, I listen to Korpiklaani. Two songs later, you will have a beard. You will also be wearing a helmet with horns. It just happens.

A week of facial hair is also proven to increase rock climbing ability. Full beards increase mountaineering ability.

Re: Growing a beard

And I lied to you guys! I forgot that I had let it go for about 2 weeks once before in honor of taking the polar bear plunge. I guess jumping into the icy lake froze my brain...
