Was Pierce the #1 contender @ that time when he beat Fitch? Fitch was the #1 guy to beat at that time GSP bet him. Fitch probably was a vastly better fighter against GSP.

As far as GSP beating BJ at his own game....he may not have subbed him but he certainly controlled him on the ground AND passed his guard, which I don't think at that time had ever been done.

I also will say that I cannot really say GSP is the best P4P but he and Silva are neck and neck to this point. Hopefully one day we get to see them fight. I think we will.

Re: UFC 112 "Invincible" predictions

I don't think we wil see GSP vs Silva, but I sure hope I am wrong.

It's crazy, but Mike Pierce fought a vastly superior Fitch than GSP did, because he fought him after GSP did; after Fitch lost to GSP and began working diligently on his strength & conditioning to become stronger and more athletic (he felt that's the reason why he lost to GSP) and after Fitch went to Thailand for weeks of hardcore training. It was over a year later.

And yes, GSP and Silva are definately close. And so is BJ. They all dwell in the same realm, with BJ and Silva one or two steps above GSP, in my opinion.

Re: UFC 112 "Invincible" predictions

Silva by KO. I really hope that this fight goes to the ground at least one time. I would love to see how well Silva fares against Maia on the mat. I think he'll do well...at least he'll avoid a sub.

BJ, not sure how. I hope this fight stays on the feet for a while. I've liked Edgar's stand up. BJ has the advantage everywhere.

Gracie by sub. I can never never ever root for Hughes. Ever.

Etim by KO. Seems to be a more polished striker.

Munoz by KO. I like him a lot more at 185 vs 205.

Regarding ongoing P4P debate. Silva, GSP then BJ in my book (UFC only in this convo). All are great champions and don't seem to have any trouble holding onto their belts. Silva and BJ have done a great job of finishing the majority of their opponents while GSP seems to have hit a rough patch recently. Tough opponents, but he seems overly cautious. Since GSP beat BJ I'll give him a slight edge (yes I know it was at 170).

(how anyone places GSP above Silva & BJ is beyond me!).
You're joking right? This has to be a joke. But April 1st was a week ago.

Dominate Anderson? HA!

I can't believe Bj didn't win. Anderson looked liked he checked out.

Lesson to the UFC. Don't put Anderson Silva against people that have nothing for him. He will show them no respect and embarrass them for 5 rounds because he knows they're nothing compared to him. If he had been fighting Vitor it would've been an entirely different fight because he would respect Vitor and actually go in looking to smash him.

Why didn't Anderson finish him early? Anderson has had a lot of very boring fights...he needs to step it up. Let's not blame the UFC, he should be able to dictate the pace of his fights to a large degree.

GSP is one of my favorite fighters. I just don't think he's in the same league as Anderson Silva. I'd like to see GSP beat the likes of Rich Franklin or Dan Henderson first before fighting the Spider.
