I just began the CrossFit program and had a question regarding the suggested breakdown of Protein:Carb:Fat percentages. I read that the suggestion was a 40%, 40%, 20% breakdown, respectively. However, I was wondering what the percentages referred to... are they the percentage of total calories ingested that come from each or is it the percentage of total grams which come from each?

For instance, would you add the total grams of each and divide by the total grams of all 3 in a meal, or would you compare each to the caloric intake of your meal?}

Shawn, the suggestion is 40C, 30P, 30F. And I believe that it's total calories.

Do a search for "zone diet" on the forums and/or order the "meal plans" back issue of the Crossfit Journal via the link on the left side of the homepage. That will give you all you need to know.
