Seen in Public today

New possible break off from seen at the globo and heard at the office? I hope so!

Anyways, today I get to the university library, get in the elevator to go to the 8th floor (sore legs from heavy squats) and 5 people get on. I am pretty sure neither knew each other, but they all went to the 2nd floor!!!!!!

Did I mention that you have to walk to the library to get to the elevators, but the staircase is at the entrance to the building? Literally 10 feet from the doors, and the elevator is about 20 meters.

The beautiful efforts of the youth today, huh

Re: Seen in Public today

Such "lazy exertion" as I call it, isn't new to me in the gym. I find myself doing heavier sets with the same rep output, because I'm too lazy to remove the weights and put on what I had originally calculated to be my starting point. For example, today I wanted to start with 170lbs for front squat, but didn't feel like removing the 25s that were on with the 45s. I never go the other direction, though, where I start lower than what I had calculated. In the gym, I try to be lazy on the side of effort.

Re: Seen in Public today

I was at Dick's Sporting Goods looking for some Nike Frees.
I ask the "shoe specialist" if they have them.
SP "No, why would you want those? What are you going to do with them?"
Me: I was doing some reading about the benefits of less stability and cushion in shoes. I wanted them for CF
SP: "No you dont"
Me: Yes, yes I do
SP: "No, you dont. What ya want is lots of cushion"
Me: (figuring he's never heard of CF) I want it for weight lifting. DL, PP. Snatches...
SP: "No, see you need all the cushion you can get. You will mess your feet up if you dont have as much as possible and if you lift heavy see if your gym has mats your can lift on too"
Me: No, I'd like a pair of VFFs but thought I would try shoes with minimal cushion first and I cant lift barefoot...
SP: You need better info, I used to be a trainer...
Me: You do. Thanks

I wish I would have been a smarta$$. I got embarassed and mad and left--then thought about all the stuff I could have said.

This reminds me somewhat of all the people out there that drive around a parking lot for 15 minutes looking for a "close" spot, when they could have immediately parked maybe 50ft further away and walked right into the store. Why spend all that time driving around to save yourself 50ft of walking? WHY!?

Looks like he was good at it too...that's why he's now working in a store mis-selling training shoes to people.

That is one of my biggest pet peeves!! I have to try very hard to not blow up when I'm in the car and someone else is driving and pulls up and down each aisle, passing plenty of open spaces looking for one right up close. I pull into the first open space I see in the aisle closest to the store entrance or the parking lot exit.

Re: Seen in Public today

I've had a damaged knee for a few months now, but I've always made the point of still walking the escalators from the subway platform to the surface (3 levels below surface). Even on days after heavy legs days or a bunch of sports I'll be walking the escalators, and when it's packed (full trains just arrived), I'll take the emergency stairwell up. I always have to walk past the elevator when I do that. There's usually one old person with a walker/cane/etc... and about 15 college age international students. Without fail.

I also used to live on the 2nd floor of residence for 2 years and we would heckle mercilessly any of our floormates who took the elevator up without a good reason.

Even when I lived on the 5th floor most of us walked the stairs since it was faster than waiting for the elevator.

Not to mention they will no doubt spend the next hour+ or so walking around the mall or whatever... so whats the big deal with adding an extra 45 seconds of walking in the parking lot?
