Julius, the line directly after this made me literally laugh out loud when reading SS. It went something along the lines of,

"and if you do insist on wearing gloves, make sure they match your purse".

Re: Classic Rip

This is why I ask myself numerous times if I should even post the question I have. My greatest learning has come from Rip verbally ***** slapping others.

Re: Classic Rip

Response to a question in regards to adding assistance exercises and bike riding....

"The program in SS:BBT is not designed to be supplemented with anything. Neither of you -- old guy or young kid -- are in a position to recover optimally, as would be a 21 year-old genetic freak. Just stick with the program and let it work for you unsullied by the trappings of muscle magazine silliness or a desire to gild the lily. If you want to ride your bikes, don't be gone too long. In fact, be back before supper."

This guy needs to go to an open mic night.

Yeah, Rip is just too damn right on!

And West Texas is FULL of guys every bit as wise and funny as Mark. I have met dozens of them. Something about that dry, windy, sometimes unforgiving country...it creates strong people with a hell of an outlook.

Re: Classic Rip

As people have noted, the entire "Milk it!" thread is incredible (http://************.net/forum/showthread.php?t=431; mostly w/f/s, aside from language). But no one's mentioned this gem in response to a comment about trying to drink 2 gallons of milk a day: "But you would be s***ting primarily cheese. Are you ready for this?"

Re: Classic Rip

Here's one quotein response to somebody asking if they should close their eyes while doing squats because he is surrounded by mirrors at his gym.

"Have you read any of the posts critiquing squat form where I yell and scream about looking down? Have you read my book, which yells and screams about looking down? Apparently not. No, do not close your eyes -- you'll need them for balance. Look down."

If you want more of Coach Rippetoe go to his Q&A on ************.
