Question for Climbers- Who is she?

Hoping someone could figure this out for me.

A long while ago I was reading about this competitive climber. A lean blonde girl, quite young at the time. She was known for doing one finger one arm pulls with ease.

If I remember correctly- story goes her parents were scientists of some sort and she grew up with them somewhere in Africa(?) where they were doing research. In order to keep her entertained they gave her a pet monkey. She played/ climbed with the monkey everywhere and because of this when she came back to North America became a climbing sensation.

Anyone know who Iím talking about? I canít remember anything but the above details. When I search for info using any of it I just get weird links to YouTube videos. I want to find out who she was again as I thought the whole story was pretty impressive.

Thanks.

Okay, I'm pretty sure this isn't who you're talking about (primarily because he's a guy) but check out Wolfgang Gullich. I guess that's supposed to be him in the color photo, but if so, then Wolfgang looked like a girl.

No- I''m positive it was a girl.

When I saw you had replied Derek, I was sure I would have my answer!
I'm going to do another search now.

I looked a bit more and stumbled upon Lisa Rands. Looks like her, but I can't find any mention of the monkey. I just found the story so peculiar...

Not a girl, just a long haired German.

You'll notice he is the inventor of the infamous campus board. Every gym should have one.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about Tori Allen, there was a cool Discovery Channel peice about her a few years ago. She was a dominant force in climbing a few years back.

I believe this is the link to the Tori Allen episode of More than Human on the discovery channel.

Googled Tori Allen and found

"Tori Allen grew up climbing trees with monkeys in the jungles of Africa."

Crazy story.

You've described me as well! But I have to mention that although I may share a name and long-haired-Germanity (though I've cut the hair now) with GŁllich I have never climbed anything other than the boxelders in my front yard as a kid. (Sometimes I did get mistaken for a girl when I had longer hair though, if that makes me cooler!)

Tori Allen, she no longer climbs, but pole vaults instead.
