A big layer of duct tape or athletic tape around the J hooks will help as well.
There is no substitute for strength, and no excuse for the lack of it.

Thanks guys. I'll have to try that. Perhaps I can salvage this one. Or perhaps I can do that and still get a new shiny oly bar.
