Buddy Lee rope broke anyone else

I've had my buddy lee rope for about 3 months and and it just snapped in the center, anyone else experience this....?
as well the bearings are starting to make noise... I'm going to put some packing grease on them... but I never expected a $30 rope to fail so quickly.....

I know that they sell replacement ropes and bearings, but i really don't plan on buying every 3 mo if thats all they last....

I also find it pretty funny that the rope is $5, the bearings are $3
so that makes the handles worth $20....

Re: Buddy Lee rope broke anyone else

I think my rope lasted about 3-4 months. I suspected that jumping on concrete contributed to the short life. I ponied up for replacement ropes, although we eked out another month or two by duct taping the first one.

Re: Buddy Lee rope broke anyone else

One of the rings snapped 2 days after getting the BL Aero. Got Customer service to send me a replacement free of charge of course.

They sent me 2 new screw in pieces (bearing, ring & connector).
After a week one more ring broke, and withing a couple of months one bearing started making noise, and another ring broke. I took two keychain rings and rigged this POS back together.

One of our clients got one too a while back - and a ring broke.

By now I don't care how fast the rope is - it's just an expensive piece of ****.

The connector ring broke on one of our BL ropes.

I like the speed, but like Chris, it will take some heavy convincing for us to lay down that much cash for another BL rope. We have some cheap ones ($3/each) from a local shop that are fast enough for consistent doubles and tough as nails.

Yeah i've got a five dollar rope from sports authority that I can do consistant double unders with it's lasted for years. And I only jump on concrete or asphalt so it takes a beating. Never had any experience with a buddy lee rope, but it doesn't sound like I'll be getting one.

Re: Buddy Lee rope broke anyone else

My rope snapped in the center as well. It was used and abused by many a flailing DU attemptor, but only for a couple of months as well.
I'll be looking for duct tape to fix and maybe an Everlast to replace the fancy piece of...

Re: Buddy Lee rope broke anyone else

Sounds like a pretty big issue, we should ask Buddy Lee to join in on the conversation.

I looked at his ropes at the Pittsburgh Cert and decided not to purchase any of them. They don't appear to be built with anything close to robust components. I have heard you can't store them on a peg either or it creates a weak point that will snap.

I have been trying to find a good rope to put in our store, here is what we are going to go with New Jump Rope wfs

I like equipment that can take a beating! My clients are not very gentle with anything in our facility.

Re: Buddy Lee rope broke anyone else

I too have had some problems with my buddy lee rope. I broke it in half the first day I used it, but i was jumping in a freezing cold garage with a concrete floor. I was sent 2 replacement ropes and an etra set of swivels.

The bearing are supposed to be lubricated regularly with WD-40 or tri flow.

The ropes should not be stored on pegs. The directions do say that. They say to lay them out or wrap them around soemthing large.
If you have a propensity to break the rings, happen back into the fishing section at your local wal mart and pick up about 100 split rings for 4.00 or less. Attached is a link to cableas where you can order the split rings as well.

I was not happy with the rope breaking, but I love the speed of my aero and since I have been caring for it properly, I have had no issues. My only issue is why I can't hold on to any jump rope with my right hand. The handle just slowly slips through.
