Re: Beware of Kalsu

Yep, I will also say that the only standard for burpees is your chest hits the deck at the bottom and you stand straight up, feet leave the ground, clap overhead at the top. No push up necessary.

Anyways, I'm going for it tomorrow. I'm hoping for sub 25 but I'm also determined to finish as RX'd no matter how long it takes me.

Re: Beware of Kalsu

24:57, it was rough. Got a little ahead of my self on the first 4 minutes, then held on through will power to keep from quitting over the next 19 and just about killed myself putting up 7 sloppy thrusters on the last minute to finish under 25. they may have looked more like front squats + a push press on the last three...

This was definitely the hardest I've pushed myself in a while and 20 mins later when I took I shower I ended up puking which is something I've never done before after a WOD and I've definitely never felt the urge to that long after. Treated myself to a post puke beer and then I promptly fell asleep for 3 hours.

Feeling much better now!

I think I will do it again and stick to my game plan but not for a while.

Re: Beware of Kalsu

Haha great job man! I felt super nauseous afterward too, but just barely managed to hold it down. I also took a good long nap, and then still slept about 14 hours that night. Hopefully you can sleep in tomorrow, because I can almost guarantee you are going to want to! I'll also do it again.. but like you said, not for a while. This thread is well named.

Re: Beware of Kalsu

Tried it again the other day with 45kgs, so 99lbs. Took 16:48, lot easier once I was better at thrusters. Hoping to try the RX'ed weight soon.

Re: Beware of Kalsu

Jesse, what was your rough split for the thrusters? 25 minutes sounds like a GOOD time for this workout, but at the same time it doesn't sound too above and beyond to do 5 burpees and 4 thrusters with about 25-30s rest per round. I take it you started quicker though?

Re: Beware of Kalsu

Congrats Jesse on such a monster performance! Kalsu with 95# is hard enough for me..135 is brutal. Good info about having to sleep after and sleep in the next day. I will remember that when I try this RXed. In fact I think I might try it with 95# tomorrow if my back is feeling better. Ive done 50 thrusters with 95 before but Ive never finished.

My original plan was to do 4 per minute all the way through but I felt good once I got going so I kinda jumped the gun and did 8-8-8-7-5 over the first 5 minutes. This was probably a mistake because I hit the wall pretty hard after that. For the next five minutes or so I could only get 1 or 2 per minute. At that point I was seriously considering quitting but after a few rounds of just holding on and pushing though I recovered a bit, got a second wind of sorts and got into a grove of doing 4 per minute. In retrospect I should have held back and I should have done the thrusters out of a rack, cleaning the bar every time I dropped it wore me out. I think I will also wear wrist wraps next time. After a while my wrists started to really hurt.

Also, just want to say my father who is 61 years old did this WOD scaled down to a 45lb bar in 14:55! Think I scaled too much for the old man!

Re: Beware of Kalsu

Oh, I was very mistaken then, sorry about that. I thought the push-up was a requirement for a burpee, not just "chest must hit the deck" as that would allow for the person to come back up in any way possible. My bad!
