POWER study - need volunteers

I'm looking for volunteers to participate in a Power study. I'm trying to make some potentially odd correlations between power, work, endurance, strength, size/bodyweight, efficiency, and potentially other unknown variables.

I am developing an Excel spreadsheet for volunteers to plug in data points for this study. I need volunteers to subject themselves (and hopefully clients) to short workout performances ranging from 2 minutes to 10 minutes, over the course of about 3 weeks. Movements include deadlifts, thrusters, and KB clean-and-presses. All workouts are single exercises with "maximum repetitions" or "as fast as possible." Changing variables include load and/or time. Example: Do max rep deadlifts with .75BW in 3 minutes. Another workout is: Do max rep deadlifts with 1.5BW in 3 minutes.

Perform all workouts within 3 weeks. Measured categories include: BW, load, time, repetition numbers, bar (or KB) travel.

Still compiling list of workouts, but looking at about 20 workouts or so with different constants and variables. I'm willing to take suggestions, or accept data from previous studies to help design my research. Thanks much.

Re: POWER study - need volunteers

Louis,

Would you expect volunteers to only do the workouts you are testing over the three week period?

I would hope volunteers could do the "tested workouts" in addition to their normal WODs.

lewis - i'm bill patton - the logsitall.com guy - your post overlaps a bit with mine - in that i'm trying to find someone interesting in helping analyze the data currently in logsitall from 5,800 CF'ers who have logged 58,000 workouts. The dataset includes in some cases gender, body weight, and other info. For research purposes I can give you an anonymized dataset (no personally identifyable info) that might help you with your quest. If interested please drop me a line at wkpatton@aol.com

Re: POWER study - need volunteers

Hmmm... definitly intrested.
3 weeks and 20 workouts... are the intent to do more then one a few days during the period? or just 1 rest day for 21 days?

Re: POWER study - need volunteers

I would hope we could all do the 20 or so research WOs within a couple of weeks...in addition to your regular WODs. Although, maybe a better research system would be to only have 6 or 7 research WOs for the 3 weeks, with one movement pattern at a time... something like barbell DLs

1. half BW for reps. 2 mins
2. half BW. 5 mins.
3. half BW. 7 mins.
4. BW. 2 mins.
5. BW. 5 mins.
6. 1.5 BW. 2 mins.
7. 1.5 BW. 5 mins.

Any suggestions? I want to initially compare Work Performed, as well as Power, as well as Power per Kg of BW.

Then compare similarly structured WOs for BB thrusters (much less weight of course), then KB C&P with different loads (maybe 35,50,75?).

Re: POWER study - need volunteers

in 21 days there is about 16 WODs, doing one thing extra each WOD or 2 on lighter days are more then doable

Or to make sure there is enough rest and no overtraining 1 or 2 WO per 3/1 cycle.
But the main thing is to just set the what should be done and how, so the results are more precise.

Those WOs you posted look fun
Not sure with the C&P 5min with a 75 would be that fun, my BW is ~145 :P
