Swimming at Lunchtimes and then Xfit in the Evening?

G'day all,

Ive been trying to get down to my local pool at lunchtimes and do 10 - 12 laps. Im a surfer so im figuring that it helps me in the water, and active recovery from x-fit.

My question, is it too much with the x-fit? I typically surf when there is surf around (as well as doing x-fit), so im pretty active.

Just wondering if its too much.

Cheers,

Brook

CrossFit Endurance might be the best route for you.

I used to swim during lunch and WOD at night all the time. It was fine. I either used CrossFit Endurance or Swimplan.

I do it all the time. Some of my best PRs are in the evening after a swim workout at lunch. If you do a hard swim workout at lunch, you might want to work on strength at night. 10-12 laps is not too much volume so it shouldn't impact your recovery much and I agree it might actually loosen you up a bit. I usually swim 1500 at lunch and do a strength workout in the evenings on the days I swim.

Depends how hard you're swimming and if you're eating/sleeping enough to support the extra activity. If you start feeling run-down all the time or if your CF numbers start going in the wrong direction, then it's probably too much.

Is it to much? That only you can answer. If you start feeling symptoms of over training then you're doing to much.

As others have hinted at, it all depends on how hard you go at those 10-12 laps. Swimming can be either great active recovery or it can leave you moving like jello for the rest of the day, depending on how hard you swim.

yeah i dont push myself too hard. it is like a 2k run there and back. back which is mostly hills...

i try to take it easy on the runs, as they really seem to work my legs hard - which then kills me for the wod...

appreciate the feedback though. i shall keep tinkering

just FYI crossfit programming is based on athletes participating in other sports during the week. i say go for the swims & watch for signs of over training.
