I am ashamed to say that I cannot even perform one handstand pushup. I get to the bottom and push with all of my might but my arm strength is not enough to lift my body back up. My goal is to be able to do one handstand pushup and then I will work my way up to five in a row. What is the best training method to use that will get me doing handstand pushups in no time? What specifically do I need to do to achieve my goal? Thanks for any suggestions.

Two things you might want to try.

1. Negatives - slowly lower yourself from the handstand position to the bottom position for a five (or whatever) count. Come out of the position, immediately kick up to a new handstand and repeat.

2. Military press - just make sure not to use your legs in this movement. In this case, we're trying to increase pushing capacity in isolation of the lower body.

Hope this helps,

You might want to add this idea this to Ryan's suggestions.I found doing lots of handstand holds (handstands for time, no pushups involved) really helped me develop shoulder strength and didn't sap my recovery ability. Just a thought, hope it helps.
