What shoes do you suggest for mud running?

I just wrote an article on this with recommended minimalist shoes from the mud running community at large. Check it out here.

What shoes do you suggest for mud running?

Best,

Mud running in general or mud races?

If it's mud running in general I'd probably use vibrams because I don't need socks and they're easy to clean and quick to dry.

For a race I'd go with an old pair of sneakers that I wouldnt mind throwing away. That mud STINKS and is almost impossible to get out.

I wore a pair of merrel's for a 5k marine mud run a few weeks ago. They were new, good tread, made for all terrain and held up beautifully. The course had 5 or 6 deep mud pits, 2 x 30 yard walks through 3 feet of water and countless hills/obstacles.

Sure, they were covered in mud but my water hose fixed it pretty easily. :-) They were made to handle it.

There were countless people slipping all over the place in old sneakers which was dangerous going up a hill b/c somebody else could slip and fall on you. You need a shoe with good tread.

I agree good tread is a must and old sneakers aren't ideal. But I wore a pair of merrels in the warrior dash and it took like two weeks for the stink to go away.

This year I used an old pair of inov8s for a mud run and warrior dash. I thought they worked really well. The year before I just used an old pair of shoes I used for mowing. The inov8s work a whole lot better.
