Jacob Tsypkin and I are looking to get a Crossfit group going this summer in the Monterey area. We know there are people at the DLI Crossfitting, and think that there are people at NPS as well. Does anyone here live on the peninsula, or know other Crossfitters that do? Jacob's got a pretty fly home gym going and we've been using the Monterey Sports Center for heavy lifting and rowing as well. Get some.

I would totally be down with doing a CF Monterey Pennisula. I don't have a membership at the Monterey Sports Center (I use Garden Health & Fitness...mainly because it is close to where I work and is usually empty), but I'd be stoked to have someone else to CF with. Email me at bigwilliestyle@gmail.com and we can hook something up.

You don't need a membership to go to the sports center. I think it's 6.50 a visit for adults not from the area. We only go there for heavy lifting and rowing. For everything else we train at Jacob's and my house, and the surrounding areas, which is free. How are the facilities at Garden Health and Fitness? We're very excited to be adding another participant. Jacob's in the process of talking to the crossfitters at the Defense Language Institute to maybe get some joint sessions going if they're interested.

William - depending on what city you live in, it is somewhere between $5-6.50 to use the MSC. We are only there about twice a week, so it's not all that bad. Like Russ said, I have a pretty nice backyard gym going on, Russ has a set up in his house, and we plan to work out at Pacific Grove high school's track. We also found a nice spot on the beach where we can have a workout followed immediately by a barbeque :proud:

I live out in Seaside, and I've actually been over to the MSC a couple times when I was checking out the local gyms in the area. To answer your question Russ, GH&F is pretty much your "typical" gym. No bumpers, no oly platform, no KBs, etc. However, the one thing it has going for it is that it's usually EMPTY when I'm there, which makes it alot easier to do CF style workouts. In any case, it sounds like we can put this together.

I also forget to add that GH&F has one rower...probably constructed around the time I was born and has been broken for the past 5 months.
