When I get up to single rep max deadlifts I'm finding that i'm using my lower back alot more than my legs. Perhaps my legs need more squat work.

What would everyone say is the proper ratio of leg vs lower back effort in the dead lift ?

Kevin-
How tall are you? The amount of low-back vs leg involvement wil vary from person to person but ideally the load is very evenly distributed. It should hurt everywhere, not any one place! Have you bought Rip's book Starting Strength?

I'm 5'10'' and no i haven't bought that book. I guess I should. I'm thinking that i'm not pulling up in a uniform fashion. When I get to heavier weight I have trouble sitting back on my DL's and it seems like the lowerback is doing more work than the legs.
