Charlotte Weightlifting Classic - First Time Lifters!

This would be a fantastic meet for a first time lifter. It is a "developmental meet," meaning that extra time will be spent helping lifters understand rules, attempt cards, warm ups, etc. It is a USAW sanctioned meet.

Tam,

How do you set up a "developmental meet"?

This is a sanctioned meet, so it's just set up through USAW in the usual way. However, there is going to be extra time taken during the rules meeting and before lifting to explain things, walk lifters through attempt cards, etc. It is also limited to 30 lifters.

Anyone can compete. But, the goal is to ensure that first time lifters have a positive experience and walk away wanting to do another meet.

I am encouraging any of my lifters who want to compete at the state championship in September to do this meet. I do not want someone walking into a major meet with 100+ lifters never having competed before. Just having an understanding of how warmups, attempts and refereeing work will help alleviate some of the stress when they lift at a bigger meet.

What a cool concept. The first meet for my wife and I will be the Rocky Mountain State Games at the OTC in less than weeks. Not looking for anything spectacular, just a total and 6/6 lifts.
