Saw at the health fair today . . .

So there was a health fair at the high school today. I went, got my blood drawn for some sort of battery of tests (results I will get sometime in the next two weeks, they said).

Anyway, I was amazed at the sheer number of booths giving away candy. This is a health fair! I can see why the nutrition booth would reccomend 10 servings of grains and less than 2 servings of meat because they're just parroting the governments food pyramid -

But SNICKERS and M&Ms??????? This is a health fair, for Glassman's sake!

Other than that, the booths were an interesting mixture of advocacy groups, multi-level marketing plans, community services, and chiropracters. I did get a free 5 minute chair massage, so that was cool.

But candy!!!!! (yeah, I occasionally splurge on a peanut butter cup, but I don't pretend it's healthy).

There was a health fair at my work a few weeks ago. There was even a Crossfit affiliate there; but I didn't get to go to it. That really dissapointed me 'cause I wanted to ask them if CF was like cardio kickboxing.

Nope. It looked like they cleared out the Halloween candy clearance racks, actually. Of course sugar free would have made it all better, I agree.

Luckily, I could zone a little, as the snacks they had for those getting blood drawn included cheese squares and sticks.

One reason and one reason only...you noticed the candy as did everyone else there, and it draws people to the booth and makes it easy to start up a conversation.

Suck it up.

Personally I would go to the booth giving away freshly grilled steaks.

It's all good. However, I pointedly was not drawn to the booths that had candy.

Actually, the best draw was the dentist booth, where they were giving away sample sizes of toothpaste and floss. That was eye-catching and health-promoting.
