Re: Hummus

You need to decide for yourself. Used it a lot in the past but now I eat paleo foods and beans are def. not on that plan!

Re: Hummus

Instead of hummus go for baba gonnouj. It's eggplant, garlic, lemon juice and a lot of spices. Some recipes call for cinnamon or nutmeg which helps kick up the health factor even more, and it tastes great.

Now...if I could just kick the fresh-made pitas my favorite Mediterranean restaurant serves with it...

Re: Hummus

Casey;
When I was eating chick peas, I was making hummus almost 3-6 times per week. You can add anything to it, it's the bomb.
I've replaced it with homemade nut butters, which are also the bomb.
Your call, zoners or just simple clean eaters, Hummus is very very good.
I tend to follow more of a Paleo diet, beans, peas are not on my menu, but again, I'm not advocating any diet.

Re: Hummus

Casey,

You can find it by the grocery stores near me (Kroger in SW Virginia) but I find that taking the time to make a batch of your own is much better tasting. I like Alton Brown's recipe on foodnetwork.com - it's more or less the classic version. (wfs link: http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/reci..._17751,00.html) I make it with double the garlic because I like the strong flavor, and depending on my mood - or how much fat I want to eat - I'll garnish it with olive oil, chipotle, red pepper flakes, or nutmeg. You can make a big batch and it'll last for an eternity in your fridge.

Re: Hummus

I love it myself, I try to follow zone, but I'm not sure how well it fits into the zone, maybe well, maybe not, who knows... I haven't thought about it too much because I haven't had it in a while.

Re: Hummus

It is zone friendly - it is even in one of the menus plans in one of the 2 zone books I own.

Darren-
Instead of Pita bread, I use veggies - broccoli, peppers, etc. - for the dipping!
