Cruise Ship WODS

Not too sure where this was supposed to go but here is my question.

We are headed on a cruise, and would like to know what to expect to find in the Gym on a ship. We have done body weight stuff all this week, so the rotation for us over the next three weeks at our box is weight movements.

Have any of you done CF on a ship?

I know it's not a big change, I am just curious about equipment that we will find on the ship.

Any input would be appreciated.

Funny you should mention it. Just got back from a cruise. They had a jogging track up top. 9 laps = 1 mile

In the gym, they had a bunch of state of the art treadmills, sally machines (ellipticals), and weight machines and dumbbells. You can get a good workout.

Yeah, I was on a cruise as well. I don't recall seeing any barbells. Probably for good reason, one can only imagine what might happen if the boat starts rocking while you have weight overhead haha.

Re: Cruise Ship WODS

I was on a cruise earlier this summer. They had a bunch of weight machines, elliptical, and treadmills that I didn't care for. They DID though have 1 rowing machine (yay!) and a small free weight area with dumbbells up to 70 lbs. I was able to get some all right strength workouts in. There was also a little cardio floor where you could do a WoD, as long as you weren't too disruptive. There were also many stairs that could be climbed.

I would expect most cruise ships to be similar, though I wouldn't be surprised to find less dumbbells.

I would recommend the following; a combination of:
-Dumbbell strength workouts
-Bodyweight conditioning WoDs
-Rowing or stair climbing conditioning workouts.

P.S. Never taking the elevator is also a good option for not feeling super lazy.

Re: Cruise Ship WODS

I've been on 11 cruises and my favorite cruise ship workout is a modified hero WOD from Coe. I call it Coe on a Cruise Ship. 10 RFT, 10-35# DB Thrusters, 10 Pushups. Also do a lot of bodyweight and burpee stuff with DB squat cleans and DB squat clean thrusters. Finally, the Prison Workout which is 20,19,18...1 Burpees with a 35m walk between each round of burpees.

Re: Cruise Ship WODS

I did a cruise on a small ship (~300 people) with a really tiny Nautilus-type gym.

Overhead DB snatch was fun with all the swaying, since the gym was on the uppermost deck. They had a 7'5" drop ceiling, so I had to move a tile to get full extension. There wasn't room for much else.

Other than something that, I'd recommend something themed like "walking lunge around Cozumel Island" -- post time and number of steps.

Re: Cruise Ship WODS

Treadmill and dumbells will keep you from slipping backwards.
My go-to WOD with limited equipment is
20 Minute AMRAP
6 TGU's (3 each arm)
6 Burpees
