When it comes to shedding body fat or maintaining a %, is it better to be training after a few meals, early morning before too many meals, or it doesn't really matter?

In the long run, it doesn't matter...not even close to how intake matters. That said, I would think morning workouts should ramp up the metabolism and keep it high all day. Hitting it hard at night, might give you a drop off when you go to sleep. One other note is, people may be able to perform better mid-day then early morning...thereby boosting EPOC.

If you have the freedom of schedule to black box it...go for it and see what you come up with.

Black box it...try it several different ways and see which works best. We care less about what goes on in "the black box", then about what comes out as results (be those results improved health, improved performance, or whatever other goal you're chasing).

I second that. My diet makes no sense. I zone/paleo/IF with tons of x-fat. My meals start at 6a, finish around 1p, I often grapple midday and do a CrossFit workout at 6p with no post w/o meal. By many accounts that shouldn't work but I have my reasons/excuses/justifications which are unimportant. What is important is that it works rather well though I'm not sure it would for everyone. Don't discount the things that work for you specifically if you get the results you desire.

I actually prefer to workout first thing in the morning. I feel I have the most energy and concentration in the morning and when I workout in the morning I have much more energy the rest of the day.

I agree it all comes down to preference and getting in done. For a time i was trying to get the WOD done in the morning but for some reason or other i just could not get it done in the morning.I switched to evening and I have been able to be 100% consistent with the WOD. So do not beat your self up to much about worring when the right time to workout and just workout
