A comment here from "Marys" video on Main Site

I wanted to post this here for possible discussion:

If you were dying of scurvy and started taking vitamin C, would recovery be considered miraculous by the docs? Vigorous exercise is an essential ingredient for gene expression (health). Why is it considered miraculous when people start to show improved capacity/health with CrossFit? Coach Glassman said we have the largest N ever in history. We have the largest human population experiencing increased genetic capacity (you know, across broad time and modal domains) ever. CrossFit IS CHANGING THE WORLD. The size of this movement is mind boggling. How about the potential survival of the species?

Sigh. It's language like this that gets Crossfit its bad rap. It's just exercise, man.

Being an affiliate I don't think it was sarcasm.

Survival of the specie I don't know. We can "survive" eating chips and soda as well. If we kept at it for 100 000+ generations ( let's say our reproductive power/success is un-changed ) we would even be optimized for such living conditions. So we would have survived as a specie, evolved though? technically yes but utopically no.

So that lead us to the whole elitism around crossfit, and take it to a whole new level ( lol ). Could we say that if we could compare the resulting evolution on large population doing crossfit ( in a way of life meaning , ie incorporating good diet and sleep pattern ) for 100 000+ generations and compare it to the previous scenario of "evolution" through soda and chips, that we evolved in a superior ( thus the elitism ) species ?

I'll put my hand on the fire and say yes.

* btw Bo , push those knees out *

Hmmmm. 75% of what is killing people in industrialized nations are considered diseases of lifestyle. Namely, decreased activity and increased caloric intake. With the largest N in history, CrossFit has initiated a huge solution to a huge problem. What is killing the other 25%? Treatment for the diseases of civilization - take your meds - there some number is reading lower, go back to watching TV and snacking.

Seriously folks....
