rice substitute for asians (or other rice eaters)

i want to try one of the prescribed crossfit diets but i eat rice with everything. i'm asian and i currently eat rice with every meal. rice with meat, rice with noodles, rice with ....well, you get it. my meals are 70% rice, 30% anything else. i think many asians and other ethnic groups have a similar diet.

are there others out there that had similar diets and how did you deal with no rice? thanks for your input.

Eat vegetables instead?

I want to eat cookies and cake with every meal, does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this?

(sorry, i'm very sarcastic today)

How do you feel after you eat rice? Since asians have been eating rice for a damn long time, they are probably more carb tolerant than most.

What Brian said.

Re: rice substitute for asians (or other rice eaters)

Traditional Asian diets are among the healthiest in the world. If that's what you're eating, you're already ahead of the vast majority of Americans.

If you seriously want to dump rice, though, you might start by switching to brown rice, then gradually shrinking your rice portion while increasing your vegetable portion. At some point you'll put yourself into a calorie deficit if you're not careful -- rice is more calorie dense than most vegetables -- so be sure you're eating enough.

I haven't completely given up grains though I should.... not sure if its better or not, but I substitute quinoa for rice when I can.

I ate rice my whole life growing up. For the past couple of years, I substituted for broccoli/cauliflower. I'll still eat a bowl now and then and I don't feel any ill effects from eating it..

I picked up some kelp noodles the other day that were pretty good (they looked like the thin rice noodles). If you have a Wild Oats, Sun Harvest, or Whole Foods around you might be able to find them. You can also order them online from some raw food websites...
